From a small specialized machining company to a leader in the sector of small and medium-sized molds. The sixty years of experience of Omas S.r.l. and the specialization in the construction of molds for thermoplastics were the keys to the success of this industrial reality. Over the years, Omas has seen a significant increase in its workforce, its production capacity as well as its expertise in design through the use of increasingly updated CNC machines and with an efficient CAD / CAM structure.

Our dynamic history and technological

1965. The Foundation

In February the OMAS was established in San Giustino in the province of Perugia. The three founding members come from different sectors and work experiences for some carried out abroad as emigrants. At the beginning the activity is carried out on generic mechanical processing. In the following years it will focus on molds for both plastic injection and cold sheet metal working.

1978. The Beginnings

Already in this period, after a few years from the start, the company counts among its customers suppliers of well-known brands ( FIAT, IRE and Merloni (now Whirlpool), IBM Italia, Buitoni-Perugina, Italsider).

1980. The Specialization

Production focuses more on plastic injection molds. By equipping itself, thanks to a farsighted technical vision and careful economic management, of the first numerically controlled machines for both chip removal and EDM work.

1985-86. The Consolidation

Once the potential of numerical control machines has been consolidated, we feel the need to go further and adapt the technical office with methods and innovative tools adapted to new machine tools.
The first HP Work Stations with the relative software are inserted in the technical office, thus starting the computer aided design (CAD). In these years the working relationship with Meccanica Generale s.r.l. began. di Jesi, a prestigious internationally known mold maker who will become one of the most important customers.

1989. The Acquisition

Meccanica Generale, after a few years of relationships as a customer, acquires complete control of OMAS by profoundly changing the structure and organization. The doors of the international markets are opened. Production focuses exclusively on molds for plastics. The structure grows with an industrialization of the productive reality. There is a notable increase in the workforce, in the design and production potential. More and more up-to-date and remotely programmable CNC machines are introduced using CAM software.

1990. The Organization

A proprietary software is inserted on IBM AS400 hardware for production monitoring and management control.

1998. The Certification

OMAS compliant with the standard points of ISO 9001 is certified with the IGQ body.

1999. The Differentiation

To differentiate itself from the many competitors, often even small ones both Italian and foreign, specializes in products with high technical content such as molds for Automotive, Appliances, Medical, Luggage and Packaging. It offers a complete service and organizes itself to provide the customer with certain delivery times. Service that starts from the design to the realization of the mold and is also completed with tests and production simulations. When required, it is able to both design and develop the engineering of the plastic component and provide support in the start-up phase. OMAS at this juncture benefits from the know-how transferred by General Mechanics and does so by allowing its workers and technicians to increase their competence. On several occasions it is the site of experimentation for the whole group both for the use of new machinery and for studying new methods of production organization.

2003. The Boom

The boom in the white sector begins. Alongside the parent company, OMAS also acquired considerable experience in the design and construction of molds for washing units (washing machines) and structural details for Dryer.

2006. The Expansion

OMAS expands its diversification process: acquires the first project for manifolds (Magneti Marelli), which provides for an optimization of product in terms of thickness reduction and printability. The first co-design project with the Magneti Marelli Bologna plant is born. This is the first of a long series of molds, now in production all over the world.

2010. New Sectors - Medical

2012-15. New Sectors - Automotive

Following the collapse of the white sector, OMAS begins to explore the world of lighting. The first projects are acquired which, over the following years, will integrate the part of turnover lost in other sectors. Taking into account the considerable competitiveness in the automotive sector, the marginality of orders in order has dropped dramatically.

2019. Autonomy

Thanks to a new corporate structure, OMAS, after 30 years, completely frees itself from its dependence on Meccanica Generale. This allows OMAS to start operating in total autonomy and technical independence. With these objectives it integrates its machine tool park with a 1500 Ton injection molding machine. and two high-speed milling machines that are added to the five already existing. The will, documented by a detailed three-year industrial plan, is to implement a strengthening of the production capacity and a continuous improvement of qualitative and technological performances. This is to provide a product and service that is always better and adapted to the needs of current and future customers. For this reason, OMAS aims to become a reference point of excellence in the world of mold manufacturers for the injection of plastic materials.

Research and innovation, parametric design, many years of experience in the design and construction of injection molds for components of washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators.

Luggage

The increasingly severe restrictions on the weight of baggage imposed by airlines make it necessary to seek new technical solutions to reduce the thickness and therefore the weight of the suitcases, while maintaining existing production constraints.

Automotive

The use of plastic materials favors solutions that meet two fundamental needs of the automotive sector, lightness and the integration of parts and functions, reducing weight.

Medical

In the biomedical world, the attention to quality and the search for competitiveness go hand in hand, these two elements constitute the guidelines for the projects, to be produced using the best available systems.
